Judo (Adults)
Judo offers the adult participant an all-round workout, providing cardiovascular strength as well as balanced upper and lower body muscle development. A Judo fight is often compared to a rigorous chess match played with one's body. Each attack has a series of potential blocks and counter moves available. The response to an attack is governed by how well the person drilled their technique as well as their physical capabilities in the form of speed, strength and flexibility. People who train in Judo become "fighting fit" and can pursue their interest recreationally or in competitive tournaments at the regional, state, national, international or even Olympic level.

Balintawak Arnis
Arnis is no longer offered at Eltham Martial Arts Academy. If you are interested contact Andrew Sotiros on 0400 722 200.
Arnis (also known as Eskrima and Kali) is a weapons based martial art which comes from the Phillipines. It is the national sport of the Philippines and has a very long history of combat effectiveness. Only recently has this art become popular in other countries and enjoyed the popularity of other more traditional Asian arts. Its difference from other martial arts is that the student is taught to train with weapons from the very start, rather than starting on empty hands training as traditional martial arts do.

Kyokushin Karate - Juniors (5-13)
Juniors Kyokushin Karate is no different to the adults in terms of the techniques learnt and the syllabus; however it is not 'full contact'.
The juniors knowledge of the basics and foundations of Kyokushin are the same. Sparring for juniors is limited to ippon kumite (points
sparring - non contact sport style) and also continuous sparring where students wear protective padding and are only allowed to make
light contact to the body. Ippon teaches control and explosive fast technique whereas continuous provides reality which is very important
for self defence.
