elements muay thai boxing

Muay Thai is a hard style of martial art originating from Thailand. It is referred to as the “Art of Eight Limbs” or the “Science Of Eight Limbs” because it makes use of punches, kicks, elbows and knee strikes, thus using eight “points of contact”, as opposed to “two points” (fists) in Western boxing and “four points” (hands and feet) used in sport-oriented martial arts.

The Muay Thai boxing classes at Eltham Martial Arts academy (Download Brochure) are suitable for both men and women interested in learning this type of self defence and even for those just looking at improving their health through fitness. Classes concentrate on ensuring students are taught the basic fundamental techniques. The syllabus also focusses on developing fitness and strength.

Later as the students progresses , more advanced techniques are incorporated into the syllabus giving an insight into the origin of the style, and the culture that comes from this ancient Thai Fighting Art. Such basic Thai Boxing techniques that are covered are elbows, knees, grappling and the concept of the Wai Khru (teacher respect ritual).

We also offer seminars with other martial arts instructors throughout the year – Arnis, Aikido, Jiu Jitsu, Yoga, Meditation etc. This way our training is more holistic. Our members come from melbourne, eltham, eltham north, research, warrandyte, diamond creek, greensborough, montmorency, templestowe, briar hill, lower plenty, plenty, bundoora, watsonia, viewbank, yallambie, st helena and kangaroo ground.
